Confidentiality & Privacy Policy

The law protects the relationship between a patient and a psychotherapist, and patient information may not be disclosed without written permission.

Exceptions include:

    • If a client discloses suspected child, dependent adult, and/or elder abuse/neglect, we are required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
    • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person(s), we must notify the police and attempt to inform the intended victim.
    • If a client intends to harm himself or herself, we will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety.  If they do not cooperate, we will take further measures without their permission that are provided to us by law in order to ensure their safety.
    • If client makes threats to damage property, we are required to contact the authorities.
    • If one of client's family members contacts AHC stating that client is involved in any of the above, this too may have to be reported.

Due to licensure restrictions, we may only offer psychotherapy here in California.  We may offer psycho-educational groups and/or classes to anyone in California and the world.

Also, in working with couples, we have a no secrets policy.  We will not hold a secret from the other party, but will work with the individual to assist that person to respectfully disclose the secret with their family member and/or partner / ex partner.

If someone else is paying for your services and/or you provide AHC with another person's credit card stating that person has given you permission for you to use their card, we will require you to sign a Release Of Information (ROI) for that person so that we may follow up as necessary.
